Ancient Mesopotamia:

In the Akkadian language of Assyria and Babylonia, the term "Lilitu" mean night Spirits. Lilith as The great Mother of demons is an inspiration to Witches. Lilith is a storm Spirit dates around the time of 2400 B.C. She appears as a beautiful vampire spirit, a type of demon moon, Female-wolf, a harlot, serpent, or a nude Goddess with wings and owl. Lilith has appeared in many ancient cultures such as Arabic, Assyrian, Persian, Sumerian, Canaanite among others. Her Arabic name from Layl means Night. For more than 4,000 years Lilith has wandered the earth, figuring in the mythic imaginations of writers, artists and poets. Lilith Dark origins comes from Babylonian Demonology, where amulets and incantations were used to counter the sinister powers of a winged spirit who preyed on pregnant women and infants. Lilith, then moved to the world of the ancient Hittites, Egyptians, Israelites and the Greeks. She makes an appearance in the Bible, as a wilderness demon shunned by the prophet Isaiah. In the Middle Ages she reappears in Jewish sources as the dreadful first wife of Adam.

In the Renaissance, Michelangelo portrayed Lilith as a half-woman, half-serpent, coiled around the Tree of Knowledge. Lilith represents Chaos, the predatory nature, seduction and ungodliness. She may have more than one element based on her Age, or type (Lilith the Elder, Lilith the Younger...etc...) Lilith's common element is Air related to the Astral plane or sorcery. In the Bible, Ephesians 2:2 associates the element of Air with Satan and the children of disobedience. 

Lilith is an important Spirit for traditions, such as Thelema and some darker paths of Wicca. However, in theistic Satanism and Gnostic Luciferianism, Lilith is the first Witch being an aspect of the Adversary, an equal force to Satan, or as literally the Wife of Satan representing instinct and forbidden wisdom.  Lilith in Luciferianism is often seen as half of the infernal Pentagram (The Baphometic Pentagram.) She is often viewed as the Serpent.

If Lucifer was the first male rebel in creation, then Lilith has to be the first female rebel.
